Communicators: Somehow, we always pull the stupid thing off in the end

03.20.2010 by David Murray // 9 Comments

Writing Boot-istas will recall that last month, I grouched and snarled about our family's struggles to deal with an imbecilic Black History Month assignment for kindergartener Scout.

But an assignment's an assignment, and at some point, you got to stop bitching and start communicating. Right?

After some delicate prep work, we traveled to the Jesse Owens' grave in Chicago and then interviewed Scout at a soul food joint.

Her teacher cried—and we survived.

This is great. I love how she said Hitler made a decision that was…um…weird. And on a more important note: She got her ears pierced????? Please don’t tell Lily.

Yes, I liked that “weird” remark too.
    (And: These earrings are fake!)

Oh thank the Lord. My Lily is under the delusion that all girls need to wait until they are 14 to get their ears pierced. We too use stick ons when the occasion calls for it.
    Now who’s weird, you ask?
