The big secret: Employees already know everything

Two simultaneous scenarios that repeat themselves at companies around the world:

1. The telecommuter knows something very bad is going down at the office because her colleague e-mailed her that the boss came out of the HR director's office with his glasses on.

2. And somewhere, the employee communications director is arguing with the corporate counsel about whether it's okay to do an intranet piece on "cost-cutting challenges."
