The soft bigotry of “You got this!”

I hear it a lot on girls' soccer sidelines. I don't spend a lot of time on boys' soccer sidelines, but I suspect it’s heard less often there, because it goes without shouting.

Similarly, I'm not sure this, especially in a communications field that's about two-thirds women, is ultimately empowering. 

Also similarly, I imagine mine is neither the only perspective, nor the most important one.
