The conference Q&A: A relic of yesterday

11.11.2015 by David Murray // Leave a Comment

I got an enthusiastic response from last week's post on the humiliating imbecility of "learning exercises" at business conferences. "God bless you for writing this" is not the sort of comment I'm accustomed to receiving from a stranger.

My own sister Susan liked the piece too:

"I love this and completely agree. What I truly despise are the bullshit questions that dumb people who want to hear their own opinions out loud in the room but aren't bright enough to qualify as a presenter ask. Who gives a fuck about their stupid question? I only want to hear more from the presenter. Hate those people. Except when I is one."

I addressed that issue several years ago in this video, shot while drinking at LaGuardia after presenting to 300 people at the United Nations.

In the conferences I put on, I've eliminated much of the Q&A and I look forward to eliminating more. Because it is dumb.
