A Valentine’s Day resolution

"Wait 30 years. Then you'll know what love is." —scrawled by Larry Ragan, on an office card for my wedding in 1994

See, I have this theory that many married couples protect themselves by subtly pretending to one another that, even after 10, 15, 20 years—that they could roll back into being single again. I love you, but I don't need you.

It's dangerous to need somebody. It takes courage to need somebody. And even more courage to admit it. (Especially to the person you need!)

Even when it's obvious to everybody else.

In other words, this year I'll try to find the courage to express my Danny, to my Annie.
