Crowdsourcing time: Why is everyone suddenly “endorsing” me on LinkedIn?

10.18.2012 by David Murray // 10 Comments

Colleagues, clients, friends and frenemies. These days, the only thing being endorsed more frequently than me is breast cancer research.

Certainly it can't just be me. What's happening on LinkedIn? Am I now supposed to go and "endorse" everybody I know as part of some great American Logrolling Festival? If all Americans endorse each other's skills and expertise, should China be worried?

Talk to me, Bootistas. And give it to me straight.

Seems to me that endorsing is too easy – you just push a button. Therefore, endorsements have no meaning in the grand scheme of things. I have been endorsed by people who have no real knowledge of my capabilities, but I will only return the favour if I have actual first-hand experience with that person’s work.
Written recommendations are another matter. You actually have to have worked with someone to be able to write a credible recommendation.

Everyone keeps endorsing my Microsoft skills. Hah. How do they know I am not using Ubuntu?

I am experiencing this as well…in fact I have refused to click on the links in the emails for fear they are spam.
