A funny conversation during my last visit to the Phoenix publisher

A carful of colleagues, only one of whom grew up in Phoenix, were discussing how that town is the world's biggest collection of strip malls.

"What," asked the Phoenix native in real confusion, "is a strip mall?"

    Reminds me of a letter to the editor once upon a time complaining of a strip joint about to open in the correspondent’s neighborhood. The editor’s reply was that if the offended party had read beyond the headline, she would have seen that a strip MALL, is not the same thing as a strip JOINT, and that the definition of same was in the very first paragraph.
