I could be a contender!

I agreed with the dentist to get my wisdom teeth out after the first of the year.

They've needed to come out for years, and I haven't gotten it done, partly because—I hesitate to divulge it—I've harbored a secret notion that the wisdom teeth are causing a low-grade infection in my head. An infection that affects the brain in a subtle way, and has been holding me back just that little bit, maybe, I don't know—just say it!—keeping me from becoming the next Kurt Vonnegut.

I think I've been avoiding getting the teeth removed on the very real chance that there isn't any low-grade infection that is keeping me from becoming Kurt Vonnegut.

And what will I do if I don't have that hope?

    Suki, if I read you right, it sounds like you agree with me that there is a good chance that getting my wisdom teeth out won’t turn me into Kurt Vonnegut.

    I don’t know if you can turn into the next Kurt Vonnegut, but I agree David that you must have some low-grade infection in your head that affects your brain in a subtle way.

    Jim, you introduce an alarming possibility. That this low-grade infection is what fuels what limited talent I do have.
    Screw this. I’m calling the dentist and telling him: I’m not ready to retire!

    Mostly I’m just ticked by your self-diagnosis. I mean, did you Google that? What does WebMD have to say about Low-Grade Infection Of The Head?

    I haven’t looked for Low-Grade Head Infections at WebMD, but on Google we learn that head infections are characterized by “chronic nasal discharge, obstruction, and low-grade discomfort across the bridge of the nose.”
    Not only do I have all those symptoms right now, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t.
