I love golf, and I love America, so I should love the Ryder Cup above all things.
Then why does it strike me as alternately scary (do we need to be accentuating the "USA vs. the world" notion?) … sentimental (these guys are either pumping their fists in a victorious rage or crying their eyes out) … and pointless (our country club brats have more character than your country club brats).
No, I don't like the Ryder Cup. I think it's a platform for otherwise selfish, self-seeking professional golfers to feel they're doing something important for their "country."
Sorry, boys. I don't buy it.
finally, a rational comment about the sport of golf.
i was a ride-along observer in a round of golf yesterday. i was content being the cart driver and having a couple beers with friends who were playing. on one hole they convinced me to take a tee shot and i hit the ball farther than all three of them.
really, what’s the big deal about golf?!
Putting.
Well, I’d take it a step further and say pretty much everything after the drive. Your long irons are a bitch to hit at all, your short game takes the hands of a surgeon, and putting will turn your hair gray in one season. Play a full round. You’ll either be hooked or swear it was invented by the devil…. or both.
