Writing Boots shouldn’t be so hard on marketing people

We've been beating on them all week here. But they have a hard job, as Studs Terkel's wife Ida knew well.

When a woman friend told her she was interviewing to become the director of marketing for the Lincoln Park Zoo, an octogenarian Ida exclaimed: "What a big job! Every morning—all those peanuts and bananas!"

(Not to be outdone having outlived his vocabulary, Studs believed that hardware was hammers and nails and software was blankets and pillows.)
