My friend Steve Crescenzo has been writing and speaking about corporate communication for nearly—well, for nearly as long as I have, as he commenced his professional career at Ragan Communications six months after I did, just after the repeal of Prohibition.
Last week he actually heard a new one:
A client just gave me a great phrase to use when trying to get corporate executives and others to stop using words like leverage, optimize, implement, facilitate and other words you don't use in real life. "I always tell them, 'Use your Weekend Words,'" she told me. "Sort of like when you tell your kids to use their 'Inside Voice.'" Weekend Words. I love it.
Telling leaders to use their "weekend words": It's a bleeding-edge, world-class best practice.
