Henry David Thoreau said the man who goes “constantly and desperately to the post-office … has not heard from himself this long while.”
What would he say about we, who see a flicker of sunlight glint off our phones and reach instinctively (and desperately), for our next welcome distraction—some good news, a little praise, an update, a resolution of a question, a forgotten task to complete, a dumb joke or even some bad news that we can sink our teeth into.
Anything—anything!—but what’s currently happening in our own mind, and soul.
