On MLK Day, “The Cry of Jazz”

The problem with Martin Luther King Day is that it doesn't make anybody uncomfortable anymore, because we see King in a hazy hindsight. For a jarring sense of the context in which King was working in his time, have a look at this strange and wonderful and terrible and uncomfortable film, made in Chicago, in 1959.
