Five ways to show you’re an amateur writer instantly (saving us all some time)

  1. Put two spaces after every period.
  2. Talk of your plans to "write up" a blog post or an article.
  3. Put two spaces after some periods.
  4. Use the world "hopefully," as in, "Hopefully I'll be able to write up that piece this afternoon." (Yes, some dictionaries accept this usage, but no professional editors over the age of 29 do.)
  5. A vacuum of verbs permeated with the stench of adjectives.
