I correspond with writers most of the time, and I sometimes take aspects of that for granted. For instance, my language-sensitive ears rarely have to endure clanking sounds like what I heard through my phone the other day. "Please be patient, my computer is running slow," the salesman said, "and I'm efforting to pull up the right document."
