I'd just explained to my wife that I'd repaired the garden fence in a fairly elegant way if I didn't say so myself.

"Dad, you're so proud of everything you do," Scout said with a laugh.

"Yeah!" I said. "That's how everybody should be!"

"Yeah," she said. "That's what I was thinking."
