The future of Libya is in the hands of the people? Well, which people?

08.24.2011 by David Murray // 1 Comment

I reckon I'm as Democracy-minded as the next 'merican.

But when President Obama proclaims, "The future of Libya is now in the hands of the Libyan people," what I hear is, "The future of Libya is now in the hands of a mob comprised of all the Libyans who think they ought to be in charge of Libya."

And then I imagine the entire declared and rumored Republican presidential field, along with President Obama, Dennis Kucinich and Donald Trump, trying to run this country out of Charlie Sheen's living room, with The Situation covering the whole thing for The New York Times.

That last paragraph is a good distillation of a forlorn hope I’m harboring that all this “revolutioning” going on everywhere might actually stir some outrage up here. I know, forlorn as hell.
